Risk and Uncertainty Can Breed Creativity

Filmmaker Spike Jonze directed this 5-minute intro to Team Lakai’s DVD, “Fully Flared.”  I recently came across a video depicting the ‘behind the scenes’ view, during the filming process.  I immediately made a connection with what most every startups goes through.  You can see the crew expressing a sense of uncertainty and a great deal of risk-taking behavior.  I took away a few nuggets of wisdom that I believe startups should keep in mind:

  • It takes countless hours of work to produce ‘5 minutes of quality’ for your customer/client
  • Having an ultimate goal in mind is sometimes more important than knowing the exact path to that goal; that path will likely change…many times
  • Mistakes are made, in fact, you should anticipate them
  • Risk and uncertainty can breed creativity
